Ashley Churchyard Map

Ashley Church and Village from the air

Over the past year or so you may have spotted Ros Gallant, Margaret Richold and Rita Berry hard at work among the headstones in the churchyard.

They have been revising The Booklet of Memorial Inscriptions which is now available in the church. This booklet was originally produced by the Northamptonshire Family History Society in 1997.

In the past 20 years there have been many changes in the churchyard. There have been over 20 new graves added and a separate section for cremation ashes has been provided.

There are also new techniques for deciphering previously illegible inscriptions and church records of baptisms, marriages and burials going back to the 1500’s are now available on the internet, with more recent ie C19 & C20 records available to us from our churchwardens. Peter Richold has designed some new maps.

All these changes will, we hope, make it easier for people to find their relatives’ graves.
